European Cities Every Foodie Will Love

Europe is known for so many incredible things from culture to history, diversity to experiences, but there can be no disputing that the glazed cherry that sits on top is its culinary offering. For a foodie, Europe is as close to heaven as a living soul can ever possibly hope to get. But unlike so many other aspects of this stunning continent, what makes it so special isn’t the past, it’s the evolution that refuses to slow down or take a breath. It is a scene that constantly refreshes itself, digs deep to find innovation where no others do and to consistently evolve so that it sets trends instead of follows them.

That is why we have come up with an intriguing list of cities every food-lover must explore. Enjoy.

Bologna, Italy

For most foodies, it isn’t their love of eating in top restaurants that get their taste buds ticking, it is the adventure behind all of that. That is where Bologna dances to a tune that you can only fall in love with because this city is celebrated for its markets. There is the ancient food market of Quadrilatero and the vegetable market of Mercato Delle Erbe, both of which will allow your inner and outer foodie to go wild. Of course, you can’t visit Bologna and not try the local Ragu with almost local parmesan cheese.

Bordeaux, France

You could be forgiven for thinking that Bordeaux was nothing more than a gorgeous destination for wine-lovers to make their pilgrimage, using whatever simple tips to make their trip easier. But the food here is on another level, especially their seafood. Fresh oysters and mussels and shrimp and langoustines and clams and just about everything else you can think of, it is all here. Of course, it has all the other delicacies that make this country of food so attractive for all those with tongues too; duck confit and foie gras, as well as steak frites. The attraction is, you’ll get to enjoy it with some of the best wine in the world.

Barcelona, Spain

La Rambla is world-famous for its pitch-perfect tapas, a statement that offers more than enough reason for you to book some cheap flights to Barcelona and then overindulge breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is a city that assaults your senses in the best way possible, and the tapas cocktails and concoctions they come up with celebrate exactly that. It isn’t just patatas bravas and chorizo; it is fusion-style tapas that promises you will never get bored, no matter how long you are they or how many times a day your stomach rumbles.

Thessaloniki, Greece

It may be the second largest city in this picturesque paradise, but it takes the trophy when it comes to satisfying foodies. This is partly to do with the fertile lands it stands on, meaning the olives and beans and grapes and grains are of the highest quality imaginable. It is also to do with the simple way of life that stems from this. The meze’s here are sublime. A mix of fresh sardines, soft bread, calamari, olives, olive oil and, of course, Ouzo.
