Elite Boxing’s Muay Thai Saved My Life Workshop
Time to Kick Back!!!
In recent times, the crime statistic in KL city has been getting higher each day. It’s very dangerous especially for working lady like me always alone when travelling to and from my office. I have always in mind wanted to learn some self defense technique to protect myself. Thanks to Nuffnang for giving me this opportunity to join the Muay Thai Save My Life Workshop at Dragon Muay Thai Club.
Muay Thai was made popular during recent times by the movie, “Ong Bak” and the main character portrayed by Tony Jaa which many might remember how bone and nerve wrecking those thrust, ouch!! Anyway Muay Thai is a very old martial and self defense art that were utilized by warriors of Thailand. We were briefly introduced on what Muay Thai is. Their knees, their fists, feet, and elbows are known as the 8 deadly weapons of Muay Thai also referred as the “Arts of Eight Limbs”. Like most Martial Arts, Muay Thai has a heavy focus on fitness level. Their training may include running, rope jumping, body weight resistance exercises, abdominal exercise, and weight training.
Spacious workout space and lots of tools and equipment available.
Formal Muay Thai techniques are divided into two groups which is Mae Mai or major techniques and Luk Mai or minor techniques. Muay Thai fighting is often regarded as an fighting art of attrition where opponents exchange blows however on recent times is no longer favorable. Muay Thai techniques also incorporate the entire body movement
We began with a warm up session. Wouldn’t want to sprain any of those joints..

After getting all warmed up, the instructor starts to teach us some of the Muay Thai basic moves.
First is how to engage in the fighting position. The shoulders are raised and the forearms are lifted in front of the face. This would also act as defense and to protect us from the attacks from the opponents.
One thing to bear in mind is that we need to keep our arm straight on top when we jab constantly.
Stayed focused!

Following we need to twist our hip to prepare for the frontal thrust and sideways foot thrust so that it will hit close to the opponent and enough force to knock the opponent down.
We need to kick straight like him. Ouchh!!!
Those are just some of the awesome moves that we had learned and there are much more down the list. It was a great learning experience and now I can at least protect myself when I’m walking alone with some awesome roundhouse kick or sting jab like Mike Tyson if some creep decides to get a jump on me.
If you are interested and would like to join the Muay Thai lesson, they do provide beginner classes at RM 200 per month.
