How to Travel in Greece (Including Athens, Santorini & Mykonos) in Budget for 8Days in €1100 for 2 pax Part 2/2: Santorini & Mykonos

It’s a long holiday here and for the first time I am not travelling this time because I want to have some time to rest up and also finish up some blog backlog. This one that I am typing now were 2years ago, can imagine how time flies? I know it’s not the latest Santorini & Mykonos travel guide but from time to time people still ask me on the guide to Santorini & Mykonos especially on the accommodation and food cost and overall budget… So I thought it will be easier for me to put guides on how to travel to Santorini in Budget in my blog for all my friend and you guys too. Honestly, Santorini is still one of the place  I love to revisit again soon if possible. The scenic cliff view over the blue sea and blue dome of the church is unforgettable. It look exactly like what I always see in painting.

So before I begin, here is a map of all the places we have visited in Santorini & Mykonos. You can follow our route if you like to or feel free to change to suit your preference. Basically we have a lot of free time for ourself for this trip… Not rushing at all very chill and relax trip….

Travel Duration

I would suggest you to spend at least 3 days in Santorini. If you are the type who want to explore every corner of Santorini and take a lot of photos then add on more day in your itinerary. We arrive late at night so we ahve a full day the next day. We did not spend a lot of time taking picture because we are doing prewedding photoshoot in Santorini with our local photographer, so he took  quite a number of photos of us. So when we visit the same place we did for our prewedding shoot we did not take a lot of photo but that being said we still took quite a lot of photo just not crazy a lot. We took more time enjoying the view, the people, the culture and food in Santorini intead. We especially like to chill on the Kamari Beach…Be sure to spend more time at Kamari Beach, you will love it.

Weather

We went during the early of summer (Early Jun) so it has nice weather with blue cloud perfect for photoshoot yet not too hot. I think May is a good time too, you may see more flower and more breezy too. Many westerner flocks to Santorini in July/ August for the summer but for Asian we have enough of sun in our country so I think it’s better avoid those time due to the crowds and also hotel and flight will be expensive too.

Transport

There is bus and taxi available entire island. From our research the bus can take some time to arrive and so we opt for car rental. You can opt for cab if you only plan to travel in the town centre like Fire & Oia otherwise car rental will be more worthy. We went to quite a lot of places that are some distance away from the town centre so with car it much more convenient.

Accommodation

We stay in Gaby Apartment, Firosteffani very near to the famous Three Bell Church (Agios Theodori Church). We book like 1 month before so the choice were really limited and we are glad that the hotel/apartment turn out really not bad. It’s not a villa type more like a basic room in a apartment, but we love the location. It cost us about (€220 for 4night)  which is super affordable looking at how late we book the hotel. I heard my another friend who recently went to Santorini and book the villa near Oia cost them RM800 per night. I prefer to stay near Ferrosteffani because it’s not too crowded and noisy and it’s in the middle of the island. Pretty easy to roam around.

Food

Ohh I love Mediteranean food alot…  Those that we had in Santorini were the best and I can’t find it everywhere else especially the souvlakis . We love the one from Lucky Souvlakis that we went there 2/3 times when we were there. Not only delicious but they offer the cheapest souvlakis for only €2.

Basically main course in restaurant is not cheap but I wouldn’t say it’s expensive compare to other part of Europe it cost around €15-25 per main dish. Portion is quite big and lot of meats. Our first meal were at Mama Thira, just walking distance from our hote. The restaurant itself is very picture worthy and the view is amazing too. Food taste good but not the best.

Their food are mostly heaty so be sure to drink lots of water when you are there. There is Carefour near Fira town so you can go there to get some drinking water supply and to get some bread, ham and cheese to make sandwich if you want to save on food.

However, make sure to book in advance if you want to enjoy a sunset dinner by the caldera. We did and we had it in Noussa Restaurant, Fira. Look at the beautiful sunset…..

Dinner in Mykonos were delicious too. I remember to roast lamb shank…oh so tender and juicy. We dine in Niki Tarvena.

Entrance Fee

It’s a little bit different than Athen most attraction spot are free. Only Ancient Thira where you have to pay for entrance. and if you are visiting to Kamari, those beach chair is chargeable at €5 each. So make sure you at least stay an hour to make those euros count.

Shopping

Ok I would say, please don’t shop in Santorini even for souvenir. Get those souvenir in Athen there are the same and way cheaper. Those dress sold in Santorini is really pretty but so so costly. Easily €50 and up for a plain dress.

Budget/ Cost

This is the part where you can see how to travel to Santorini in Budget from Asia (Malaysia). If you follow my previous travel guide to Athen then you might already know the cost involved. Here I list down again for your reference.

So we never really go for super budgeted hotels or food… We eat pretty well with seafood and meat at Restaurant… So if you opt for more budget travel then the cost should be way lower than this….
