Ready for a new TV? What about a Smart one?
It is no secret that the technological market is absolutely flooded with divergent innovations across the board, from phones, to washing machines, and everything in between. Right up at the front of the innovation queue, is the Smart TV, an appliance that has moved from a simple entertainment unit to a punch-packing technological powerhouse in a relatively short time. There is a lot to wrap your head around when it comes to Smart TVs, so let’s simplify things here, and make them easier to understand.
Trimming the fat
The shape of the garden variety TV has changed almost entirely in the last 20 to 30 years, evolving from the traditional box-shaped, tube TV, to thin, sleek, minimalist models that take up very little real estate in the home, but offer an unprecedented viewing experience. If you told someone in 1990 that a screen of nearly a metre would be a standard household inclusion in due course, they might have laughed at you. But while the surface area of screens is definitely growing, you should also remember that the resolution should match the size, as too few pixels for the size of the screen can result in a deficient, pixelated viewing experience.
Pride of place
In terms of finding the perfect place for the Smart TV in your home, it makes sense to place it in an area where people are likely to gather for relaxation. A bonus that is part of the rise of a flatter TV, is the flexibility it gives you when it comes to placement. For many people, a dedicated TV room is no longer necessary – any reasonably-sized wall in an accessible area is all you need to create a place where the family can gather. Just one thing – if you are planning to connect it to gaming consoles and the like, make sure to place it somewhere that has enough storage space for the peripherals!
Many different types
The abundance of products on the market today means that there is something for anyone, regardless of budget. Sure, you might have to scale the size of your TV up or down depending on your needs, but chances are good that there is a solution you can use to make things work for you, without breaking the bank.
Smart TVs range in their capabilities too. While they can, as a rule, be connected to the internet, you will find that some models come conveniently preloaded with a range of streaming software, another type might not, in which case you will have to download your own software first before being able to benefit from the functionality.
Advanced casting and connection capabilities also allow you to share the display of your smartphone with the Smart TV’s screen, if you purchase a model that supports this. There are many smart tv apps available to help you fulfill this function, and even a basic model should be able to offer you quite a bit of flexibility when it comes to features like this.
However, if you’re not going to be using any of these features, opt for a less advanced version as this will likely cost less and save you spending unnecessary money.
