Summer Time : Wallet Friendly Sunblock for the Face

Good morning, it’s another bright day and yes a hot days too…. It’s summer now in most country in the world and for me it’s summer all year long only difference is now it’s way hotter than the other months. As you read this post, I am on my way to Bangkok!!! So do checkout my instagram for live updates from Bangkok… You can follow me at www.instagram.com/cindytong86 This whole week and probably next week too you will be expecting fun Summer related topic and today I’ll begin with Sunblock for the face since face is the most important part and need extra protection from the sun…

If you know me well I hate oily cream product on my face… It make my face feel heavy, sticky, greasy and messy like I just finish gym….. Urghhhh frustrating…. I had search all over to find a sunblock that I am comfortable with well at least less oily? Most sunblock will give a little oily feeling due to the SPF presence and some gave a terrifying white cast on my face which is not camera friendly at all…. I am not going to tell you why is sunblock required, I assume you have read or heard this topic already. I will not even talk about the SPF, UVB and UVA…. So what I am going to share with you today?? Some of the sunblock I have tried and whether it works for my skin and most importantly does not leave my skin feeling heavy and sticky…

Sunblock for Face1From left to right: Sunplay Skin Aqua UV Silky Smooth Mist, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel, Hada Labo Aqua UV Day Emulsion,Biore  Bright Face Milk & Biore Aqua Rich Water Jelly.

Okay let’s begin with my favourite among all, the Hada Labo Aqua UV Day Emulsion. It has a very light milky texture that when apply to face nicely without any white cast and it feels light on my face!! This is a day emulsion with sunblock function, 2 in 1 perfect for busy girl like me! It prep my skin well and moisturizes too… It does not make my skin feel greasy or oily… That being said as it pass 3-4 hour my skin tend to secrete sebum but most product didn’t even past the 5minutes has already make my face look like a pan filled with oil. It’s SPF 50 is a great protection for my skin such hot weather.

Next up is this spray sunblock, Sunplay Skin Aqua UV Silky Smooth Mist. This has almost the similar finishing to the Hada Labo air UV but slightly more greasy (just slightly). I sprayed this on my palm and then pat it onto my face… No white cast on the photos and also have SPF 50 which is sufficient I think. Oh it’s also water & sweat proof so you can bring it along to your beach holiday! YAY!! It gives cooling sensation when spray on my palm but when i gently pat on my face the cooling sensation is gone….  My concern is that it’s hard to ensure every part of face is covered with this sunblock as I cannot spread them evenly like how I do with cream texture… Another bonus is this mist can be applied to you face, body and hair too?? Amazing isn’t it?

Now most sunblock either comes in milky or creamy texture… Even some state gel but when I dispense the product it still look like cream to me…. This  Biore UV Aqua Rich Water Jelly Whitening really feels more like a gel texture to me even though it still in creamy white colour… Once I spread it on my face it feel like smooth gluey water on my face… This is the first sunblock I found that does not make my face feel heavy and sticky.. I actually went to the Guardian store in Midvalley and they have a few rows of sunblock to try… I literally try every single bottle and I find this texture is something I like…. Truth is, it’s very watery which is good but when apply on face still have a slight greasiness but still better than many other sunblock…. Sadly it has the alcohol scent but other than that it was fine…. it only comes in SPF 30 though…

Another 2 in 1 product which caught my attention…. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel with SPF 30 provide hydration skin needed and still protect it from the UV rays… I love the scent and the refreshing gel texture…. It still leave a oily film on my skin but if you have dry skin it think this is a good choice…

Sunblock for Face3Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel with SPF 30, RM 66.50 for 40ml

The last one is this Biore UV Bright Face Milk… This is the first sunblock I bought after asking for advice from my friend they recommend this to me. It has this pink milky runny texture….. Even though it is says that its non sticky and feel light but I don’t feel the same…. This is the worst among all and seriously I would not recommend this as it’s so so oily….It results in slight white cast on my face and I don’t feel comfortable with this at all…. It comes with SPF 50 though… I should have taken this out from this list….

Now you may ask why most of them are drug store brand and no high end brand are included in my favourite? Honestly, I have no idea why… I haven’t found any high end brand sunblock that match my criteria… So far I has tested Dermatological,  Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion, Cellnique and Kose. They all scream OILY to me… So I ended up with all the sunblock above plus they are more economical why not??

It’s the end of the post I hope you enjoy reading it and Happy Summer!!

my favourite sunblock varies with the condition of surrounding and my makeup, hehe! if i were to sit in the office whole day, i opt for Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel. If I'm doing light outdoor activity like shopping and walking here and there, I love Yadah Oh My Sunblock. Heavier than these activities and if i were to use thick makeup, I opt for Biore UV Perfect Face Milk SPF50. i used to use Sunplay SPF130 for sports but it doesnt do good to my skin.

i remember you recommended me the air uv ^_^ gonna try it soon when i finish my loots, hehe! oh btw, i baru ingat that before Neutrogena and Yadah, I have Divinia Ultra Light Watery UV Base (for face) with SPF 50. This one is very good on my skin, only sometimes je (like 2 out of 10 times ratio) my face jadi oily. it is cheap as well at Watsons, hehe!

I hate the sticky feeling of sunblock too and have been looking for one that I can use daily but am settling for the SPF protection from my BB Cream until I do find a sunscreen I like.

I usually use Banana Boat at the pools or beach but it's too heavy and smells to strong for daily application.
I'm happy to read your reviews and this has saved me from buying some of these. I don't like the white cast and alcohol-heavy products either.

I read that Paris@MWS recently recommended the AM/PM suncreen.
