Switzerland 10D9N: Day 1-2 St Moritz, Mt Diavolezza & Tirano

Good morning people…. I finally manage to find some time to edit my pictures in Switzerland… So on our first day of arriving to Switzerland we were really exhausted and honestly first day was about sleeping at our hostel….. This is because the night before we slept at Gatwick Airport and it wasn’t a very comfortable ones compare to a bed of course…. Oh and if you want to read up Switzerland travel guide and how to travel in budget but still sleep comfortably in private room not sharing room then checkout my previous post here.

As we land in Zurich Airport the first thing we look for was mineral water…..and after that we went to the ticket counter to exchange our half card pass and also to get the train ticket to our hostel in St Moritz plus the train ticket for Bernina Express. Then I remember we went to Migros too, a super market and we got a little bit of salad and bread…Some mineral water too… Mineral water is cheaper there for sure… Then we took a train to St Moritz which took 3hours ride…. The whole journey we were enjoying the view as the train headed down to St Moritz… It is a very beautiful view……

Day 1: St Moritz

Well we did not capture much picture as we were too tired until we reach St Moritz Station…..

View at St Moritz Station

We then took a bus to our Youth Hostel, which was high on top of a small hill.. It took around 15minutes ride and their bus are very on time…

The view from our hostel is very stunning… Can you see the snow mountain behind me? Oh and this is what I wore on my first day out in Switzerland…

This is the view from our room…

Here is how our room look like… The bed were quite thin but it was not that bad we sleep soundly as we are too tired…. There is no aircond or fan in most of the room we stayed but the wind from the wndow were good enough…

After having a good sleep, we woke up to a yummy buffet breakfast spread… We really enjoy eating all the cheese, milk, cold cut, breads and yogurt… I must among all the hotel/ hostel we stay Youth Hostel has the most varieties of breakfast spread and the most delicious ones too….
Youth Hostel Rate for 2 night (inclusive of breakfast & ticket to Mt Diavolezza): CHF 280

Day 1: St Moritz – Tirano (Bernina Express) & Mt Diavolezza
After the breakfast we took bus back to train station and begin our journey with Bernina Express. from St Moritz heading south to Tirano the border line of Italy.

This is us inside the train…

It took about 3.5 hours to arrive at Tirano. If you plan to take this route, remember to have your lunch at Tirano as the price there is much affordable and food is yummy too…

The entire journey we see more green mountains not so much of snowy ones because it’s summer…. The train only stops at a few stop unlike the common train which stop at almost each station. The train will stop at Alp Grum station for about 10 minutes, so we went down to take some beautiful pictures…

The train also pass by few houses and building… It was a very interesting route as the train route are usually along side river or mountain… This one runs on the road just beside houses and shops…

and when almost reaching Tirano station, there this 360deg turn where you can see a huge Viaduct. A very stunning view…

Arriving at Tirano and we spoilt by restaurant choices…..

We decided to dine at this restaurant…

We ordered Tortellini and boy it was so creammy and delicious… We regret for not ordering more….. as we thought we should try the food at Mt Diavolezza later but don’t be like us… You have your full lunch here instead of Mt Diavolezza…

On our way back we did not take Bernina express but we took the normal train… With normal train you have a smaller window but it can be opened…. Thus I can extend my arm out for a nicer pictures… More info on train please refer to my previous travelling guide in Switzerland.

as we heading near to Mt Diavolezza we see some beautiful glacier…

and we took cable car up to Mt Diavoleza…..

Thomas has fear for height but kudos to him for making his way up to the mountain!

Mt Diavoleza is a beautiful mountain covered with Glacier… I would say this is the least interesting Mountain among other we visited but nevertheless it is still very beautiful…

and more of our selfies…

and here is our couple pic taken using tripod…

and we have some fun time playing snow…This is the first time I play snow… A very magical moment for me really…

and after that the sky turns cloudy and almost raining so we had to get going and headback to our hostel….

When we arrived at St Moritz, we head to Coop to get our sandwich and mineral water supply…. Here is a video of our grocery shopping at Coop….

So I guess this end our Day 1 & 2 in Switzerland…Stay tuned on upcoming post on more of my trip in Switzerland and Greece tooo….
